EUPHORIA // SPOILER FREE REVIEW
After watching the most wholesome and hilarious show on the planet “THE OFFICE (US)”, I failed to pour myself out of the Dunder Mifflin family. For months I kept looking for the next best series. The one which would make me feel something incredibly and leave me craving for more. Then one day a friend suggested me EUPHORIA. The show had eight episodes and so it wasn’t something I could have resisted. It was the time for me stop watching The Office clips on YT and commit to a new series. So, I watched the show in a day and WTF! Like it was a hella trippy!
WARNING: The show contains scenes that are explicit and involve substance abuse.
Without a doubt, Euphoria is a kind of show that’ll leave you speechless one way or the other. In this spoiler free review, I’ll give you three reasons why you should watch this series.
1) Cinematography: If you are a kind of person who binge watches a show in a day or just adores the art of cinema, then you must watch this show. Cinematography involves a lot of technicalities. We aren’t going to talk about and make this review boring. So, whether it was camera work or the color theme in a particular scene, mostly everything in Euphoria seemed aesthetic.
The visual style of the series sets a benchmark. Where a scene is taking place makes it very unique. What we see through the camera creates a narrative impact which gives us a better understanding of the story. The shot angles and color theme immerse the viewer into the setting, making it all seem beautiful and real. Cinematically making it PERFECT.
2) Depiction of teenage life and relatability: The show is a teen drama series. For it to be successful, it was necessary for the young audience to relate to it. Which I guess, most of the viewers did. The constant teenage struggle of finding out who we are and then unconsciously messing our life up has been well portrayed. We see how fragile relationships are in our generation, like our tolerance. It also deals with addictions and its side effects, which gives us a fair warning about the catastrophic consequences of drug abuse.
Themes of childhood trauma, toxic masculinity, and gender-body positivity, delivers a strong message in their own respective domains. All these things combined, make Euphoria a show that teenagers could relate to.
3) Storytelling/Narration: Apart from our protagonists we have a few characters that are crucial for the series. At the beginning we have no clue about who the hell they are but with beginning of each episode we get to know more about every main and side character.
Each episode starts with backstory of a character. It gives us a background about who they are in the present. This makes the changes in the characters more authentic. We get to know why are they acting in a certain way, which brings them to life.
Now, without spoilers lemme talk about the ending. It was BIZARRE. Like for real, what the hell just happened. In the last episode of Euphoria, we see a few characters changing in a way that it made their character arc admirable. A few characters reached a certain conclusion that was suitable for the last episode. But there were some unsolved shots that were left open for interpretation which in a way pissed me off because I am already slow in my head. Still, it was good as I hope there would have been some hidden meaning behind it.
The show was beyond my expectation. Yes, it’s worth your time but I won’t recommend it to somebody who is still in school, which is ironical as our characters are in school. But yes, not recommended to people who are swayed away by an illusionary wind of pleasure into a storm of self-destructing consequences.
